Vitamin D deficiency can lead to the progression of many chronic conditions. Most of us are deficient in vitamin D3 since we don't spend enough time outdoors and in direct sunlight.
So why is vitamin D3 so important for our health?
Vitamin D3 helps with:
-Improving mood and depression
-Boosting the immune system
-Preventing colds and flus
-Reducing the risk of cancer
-Improving metabolism
-Weight loss
-Healthy bone formation and strength
What are the best ways to get enough Vitamin D3:
-Daily sun exposure for 20 minutes a day
-50% to 90% of vitamin D is absorbed through the skin
-Food (although it’s minimum but mushrooms have some D3)
-Supplements (D3 when not getting enough sun)
Since D3 is fat soluble, make sure you take D3 made with a plant-based source of healthy fat. Most D3’s on the market are made from sheep’s wool (lanolin). Best to find one of a vegan source.
Pair D3 + K2 together for better absorption.
BEST PRACTICES FOR IMPROVING HEALTH:
-Take 20 minute every day to get outside and expose your skin to the sun even if it’s just your face. Best time is before 1 pm.
-Do not wear ANY sunscreen or sunglasses
-Take a supplement when not getting sun
Why do I suggest not using sunscreen?
When you eat whole food plant based diet that is rich in water content and antioxidants- that is coming from lots of fruits and veggies- you will have a very low risk of getting burnt.
If you eat an animal-based diet and processed food with minimal fruits and vegetables, you are creating an acidic environment in your body which leads to an inflammatory state on your skin, leading to sunburn.
