How to help your lungs work well

LUNGS

The lungs represent breath, life force (Qi), and the ability to receive, release, and to take in life. Emotions like grief, sadness, disappointment, and unworthiness can get stored in the lungs, leading to issues like shallow breathing, tightness in the chest, or immune weakness.

The lungs are also vital in expelling carbon dioxide, filtering particulates from the air, and engaging the parasympathetic nervous system to relax and rejuvenate the body.

Signs of Lung Drainage issues:

-Shallow breathing

-Low energy levels

-Chest tightness

-brain fog

HOW TO SUPPORT THE LUNGS

BREATHWORK & MOVEMENT

Breathwork and physical movement are potent tools for enhancing the capacity of the lungs, stimulating lymphatic drainage, and improving flow of energy and oxygen throughout the body. Practices such as deep diaphragmatic breathing, thoracic expansion exercises, and somatic movements like chest openers are excellent ways to support the lungs.

EMOTIONS & THE BREATH

Our emotional health is closely tied to our respiratory function. Breathing deeply and intentionally can cause the release of stagnant emotions and energies that may be unconsciously held within the body.

Herbs-
Mullein
: Soothing properties on the bronchial tubes and clearing mucus.
Licorice Root: Anti-inflammatory benefits and soothes irritated throat and lung tissues.

Elecampane: Helps expel mucus and supports healthy lung function.

Steam/Nebulize Inhalation: Utilizes steam to open airways and relieve congestion.

Humidification: Maintains optimal indoor humidity levels to support respiratory health.
Avoid Environmental Toxins: Minimize exposure to pollutants and allergens to prevent respiratory distress.

Daily practices:

-Breath work: Do diaphragmatic breathing (inhale deeply into the belly until it expands, slow exhale).

-Quality air: Get fresh air and avoid indoor air pollutants/synthetic fragrances. Get a quality air filter.

-Inhalers: Use steam inhalation or salt inhalers for lung detox.

-Vagus nerve activation: Practice humming/chanting to strengthen lungs.

-Food intake: Reduce excess mucus-forming foods (processed foods, dairy, meat).
