My Yoga Journey

Yoga has been a part of my life since I was 13 years young. I was first exposed to meditation by my 8th grade homeroom teacher, Mrs. Culnane. I remember for the first time in my life being able to relax at school and in a public setting. With the knowledge I now have of my human design type, I realized looking back at these times that I had a lot of anxiety and sensitivity due to picking up on the energy of so many people around me and not knowing how to dispel or recharge my energy effectively. That is a topic for another blog post so let's get back to my history with yoga.

Mrs. Culnane would lead us through guided meditation and visualization which had me so relaxed that I often would doze off during part of the meditation. I began practicing on my own (then realizing I kind of was doing this on my own before by putting on relaxing music and laying horizontally on the ground). Throughout my life I got this guidance to do things that I thought were different and unexplainable but would always help me to relax and recharge. So you could say that I have been practicing yoga nidra for most of my life, haha. I started doing some basic asanas but never was consistent or didn't seek out teachers until 2010 when I began practicing with friends who were certified. I then began consistently practicing in 2018 when I attended some ashtanga and vinyasa flow classes. I then committed in 2019 to practicing the Ashtanga Primary series and in 2020 I was practicing 6 days a week. I eventually was able to do most of the poses and felt like I advanced rapidly in strength and flexibility. Beyond asanas, I was practicing pranayama and meditation. I obtained my 200-hour yoga certification in Ashtanga in 2022 which deepened my innerstanding of the 8 limbs of yoga.
